European Patients’ Academy on Therapeutic Innovation (EUPATI) was launched in 2012 as an IMI public-private partnership which primarily aimed to increase patient understanding and involvement in the development of medicines. Eight years later EUPATI became an indepdentent non-profit organisation based in the Netherlands. EUPATI aims to empower partnerships between patients and researchers through provision of accessible, well-structured, and reliable education about the lifecycle of medicines research and development and upskilling professionals on meaningful patient involvement.
VAC4EU has recently launched its partnership with EUPATI to explore involvement of patients in vaccine research with a focus on vaccine post-authorisation safety and effectiveness studies. VAC4EU has participated in joint sessions on vaccine awareness and literacy and looks forward to the evolution of this collaboration over time.
