Journal Club
The VAC4EU Journal Club is a monthly informal gathering designed for researchers at all levels, but particularly early-career professionals. We explore and discuss scientific papers across a wide range of topics related to vaccines, health data, safety monitoring, real-world evidence, and methodology.

Uncertainty in Science: Should We Say More, or Less?
What to expect at a Journal Club appointment
The Journal Club is a space to ask bold questions, challenge your assumptions, and sharpen your thinking! We welcome anyone with an interest in vaccines, health data, safety monitoring, real-world evidence, and methodology. A typical Journal Club appointment might go something like this:
- First, the presenter walks us through the scientific paper they’ve selected
- Topics span public health, pharmacoepidemiology, biostatistics, safety monitoring, and more!
- We listen actively, ask questions, and challenge our assumptions
- Don’t be shy! All questions are welcome, from clarifications to critical points
- Expect deep questions, open discussion, and occasional debates — all in a respectful space
Upcoming Appointments
Uncertainty in Science: Should We Say More, or Less?
A more scientifically literate public enables better engagement and understanding on complex socioscientific issues like COVID-19 or climate change. But how far do we need to go as researchers, communicators and educators? In a world full of misinformation, how do we communicate results effectively without overselling the impact? Do we need to explain the uncertain nature of science itself? How will this impact public trust?
How to Participate
To participate in the VAC4EU Journal Club, subscribe to the mailing list and you will receive a periodic invitation to register for the next appointment.
Presenting at the Journal Club
The Journal Club is designed for researchers at all levels, especially early-career professionals working in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, data sciences, and related fields. If that’s you, consider presenting at the Journal Club! You don't need to be an expert, and you don’t need to be a VAC4EU member. Here's what we ask of presenters:
- Select a scientific paper you find interesting
- Work with the Organising Committee to define the scope of the presentation
- Prepare a 20-30 minute presentation on the paper
- Start the discussion and see where it leads

When public health becomes a political battlefield, pregnant women and their babies become collateral damage. In a world where vaccine misinformation outpaces science we urgently need transparent and robust evidence to protect vulnerable populations.
